Abstract

722,652. Refrigerating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 12, 1953. [Jan. 10, 1952] No. 868/53. Class 29. In a compression refrigerating system, the restrictor tube 8 supplies liquid refrigerant to a reservoir 3 to which is connected, below the normal liquid level, the inlet of the evaporator the outlet of which is connected to the upper part of a higher located header 4 connected to the compressor suction conduit 6, a valve 15 being connected between the header and the reservoir and operated by a solenoid 19 in series with the compressor motor so that, when the motor is running, the valve is closed to allow pressure to build up in reservoir 3 to force refrigerant through a trap 13 to the evaporator and, when the motor is idle, the valve is open to equalize the pressure and to allow liquid refrigerant to drain from the header to the reservoir. The evaporator may be a single coil, or as shown, may comprise low and high temperature evaporators 11, 10 connected in series and separated by a pressure differential valve 12. The reservoir and header are constituted by a vertical member, 1 divided by a partition 2 in which the valve 15 works. In a modification, Fig. 3 and 4, (not shown), the header and reservoir are separate chambers connected by a pipe containing the valve 15. Specifications 722,653 and 722,654 are referred to.
