Class 29 In a refrigerating system having a multistage centrifugal compressor 20, the first stage of which extracts vapour from evaporator 1 and the succeeding stages of which extract vapour through pipes 48, 38, 28, 8 from economizers or separators 46, 36, 26, 6 maintained under increasing pressures by throttle valves 45, 35, 25, 5, saturation of the vapour entering the succeeding stages is ensured by injecting into pipes 48 &c. liquid refrigerant supplied from upstream of valves 45 &c. through further throttle valves 49, 39, 29, 9. Evaporator 1 is fed from the last separator 46 through expansion valve 47 and the compressor exhausts to a condenser 3 and after-cooler 4. The Specification describes also a two-stage system, (Fig. 1, not shown), having a single economizer or separator.
