Abstract

1,260,895. Drying compressed gases. DELTECH ENG. Inc. 25 Aug., 1969 [17 Feb., 1969], No. 42304/69. Heading B1L. [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] Compressed gas to be dried is conveyed via line 18, Fig. 2, to a chiller 10 where it heat exchanges with refrigerating fluid passing in a closed refrigeration system. Heat is given up to the refrigerating fluid which evaporates, whilst water condenses from the compressed gas and is removed by separator 20 and drain 12 before the gas passes to a reheater 11. The evaporated refrigerating fluid passes via a compressor 13 to point 26 whereupon it divides into conduits 27 and 29. (The amounts passing in these conduits depend upon the relative heat fluxes involved in the heat exchanger and are self adjusting). The evaporated compressed refrigerating fluid passing in conduit 27 gives up heat to the cool dry gas in the reheater 11 which then leaves via pipe 21 whilst recondensed refrigerating fluid leaves via conduit 28 and meets, in chamber 16, with that part which divided at 26 and was recondensed by an air condenser 14 and fan 15. The fluid recycles via expansion valve 17. In a modification, Fig. 3, the chiller 10a and reheater 11a, which have their refrigeration fluid paths connected by a refrigerating fluid expansion capillary coil 17a, are enclosed in a tube 45 and connected in series with a compresser 13a and air condenser 14a. Conduit 58 and bypass valve 59 provide a refrigerating fluid shunt path. The tube 45 can be transparent so that a humidity indicator can be observed. Several such chillers and reheaters can be used.
