Abstract
920,324. Ice making. STAL REFRIGERATION A.B. Nov. 7, 1961 [Nov. 26, 1960], No. 39838/61. Class 29. In a method of continuously heating the lower ends of the tubes of an ice generator incorporated in a refrigeration system, condensate from the system is used to evaporate a medium in a heat exchanger, the medium then passing to the bottom of the tube ice generator where it condenses, and returns to the heat exchanger by gravity. As shown diagrammatically, a device for performing the above method has an ice generator 3 having tubes 9 round the bottom of which is a chamber 6 connected to a heat exchanger 7. The heating medium evaporates in the heat exchanger and condenses in the chamber 6, heating the tube bottoms. The refrigeration circuit has a compressor 1, a condenser 2, an expansion valve 5, an evaporator 4, and a tube loop 8, in the line E between the condenser and the expansion valve, passing through the heat exchanger. Rapid heating of the tubes to release the ice is achieved by closing a cock 10 in the line D connecting the ice generator and the evaporator, and opening a cock 11 in a by-pass line A to allow warm refrigerant to pass from the compressor direct to the ice generator.
