Abstract
658,235. Refrigerating. THORWID, C. Nov. 4, 1949, No. 28319. '[Class 29] A receiver 2 is located in the suction side of a compression refrigerating system above the level of the evaporator 1 and is connected by a pipe 12 including a non- return valve 13 to the top of the evaporator and by a pipe 15 connected to the bottom of the evaporator and entering the receiver above the normal liquid level therein. Liquid refrigerant flows from the condenser through a pipe 17, an expansion valve 3 controlled by a float 6, and a pipe 10 to the receiver whence it flows to the evaporator. The pipe 15 is formed with a bend 15a to cause an interrupted liquid column to form in the vertical part of pipe 15. The receiver contains baffles 9 and refrigerant vapour is withdrawn by the compressor through a pipe. 20. The float may be disposed within the receiver 2. The evaporator may comprise a plurality of coplanar coils. When defrosting, valves 29, 28, 27 are closed, valve 30 is opened and the cycle is reversed so that hot gas from the compressor flows through pipes 20, 21 to the evaporator from which condensate drains through a pipe 23 to the condenser. In a modification, the expansion valve is an ordinary restricting valve and the pipe 10 feeds into a funnel formed in the receiver 2 on the head of pipe 12.
