Abstract

914,341. Refrigerating. DAVEY, PAXMAN & CO. Ltd. Jan. 20, 1960 [Feb. 5, 1959], No. 4119/59. Class 29. An oil separator 1 located between the compressor and the condenser is divided into upper and lower chambers 4, 11 by a partition 9, the inlet 2 discharges through apertures 3 into the former, the refrigerant rises through demister 5 to the outlet 8, and the oil flows from chamber 4 over a weir 10 and through an orifice 12 into chamber 11 which is maintained under reduced pressure so that residual refrigerant is distilled from the oil. An elevated temperature is maintained by thermal insulation around the separator, and the reduced pressure, by a connection 13 to the compressor suction, the distilled refrigerant also being withdrawn through this connection. Oil leaves chamber 11 over weir 14. The separator may also be used to remove liquid from gaseous refrigerant in the suction line.
