Abstract

1346514 Centrifugal separator; separating liquid particles from gas FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 14 Dec 1971 [2 March 1971] 57950/71 Heading B1T and B2P [Also in Division F4] In a refrigeration system, a gas-liquid separator 22 is placed in the system between a rotary compressor 10 and a condenser 23, an admixture of high pressure refrigerant gas and lubrication oil passing into the separator tangentially through an inlet nozzle 40 in the line 14. The separator comprises an upper swirl chamber formed by an internal cylindrical baffle 48, and a lower oil collection chamber 36. A wire mesh screen 56 in the form of a multi-layered screen of 100 mesh wire, is positioned within the baffle 48, the refrigerant gas passing therethrough into an outlet 64 and into the line 24. A spring is arranged within the screen to prevent collapsing. An end plug 60 is secured in the lower end of the screen. The centrifuging action of the separator causes the oil to pass downwardly under gravity, through a second screen 66 in an outlet 68.
