722,126. Furnace grates. CROSTHWAITE FURNACES & SCRIVEN MACHINE TOOLS, Ltd. May 7, 1953, [May 7, 1952.] No. 11564/52. Class 51 (1). In a furnace having a reciprocating grate and a hopper which opens above the outer ends of the grate bars, a stationary bar extends transversely over the tops of the grate bars near their outer ends and a member on each individual grate bar serves to push fuel over the stationary bar on to the main part of the grate. As shown in Fig. 1 the stationary bar 30 is rectangular in section and a member 22 secured to each grate bar comprises a plate which projects inwardly from the outer end of the grate bar and which reciprocates over the top of the bar 30, the plates together presenting a continuous plane surface. The grate bars 4 are hollow, with a number of small holes in their upper surfaces, and are supplied with air from a trunk 14. In a modification, not shown, the stationary bar is wedgeshaped in section with its thinner edge towards the front and the member on each grate bar is a raised block.
