730,885. Kiln floors. HEMEL HEMPSTEAD PATENT BRICK CO., Ltd. Aug. 25 1953 [Oct. 9, 1952], No. 20097/52. Class 51 (2) A kiln for firing ceramic goods has a floor comprising a series of narrow rectangular blocks 1 formed with vertical slots 6 and inter-engaging tongues 4 and grooves 5, the said blocks being supported at each end by upwardly tapering blocks 3 resting on pillars 2. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the sides of the blocks 1 are fluted or grooved so that adjacent blocks form vertical slots similar to the slots 6. The arrangement gives a readily laid, stable floor with even unimpeded air distribution, the total crosssectional area of the slots being approximately 19 per cent of the floor area.
