Abstract

1,045,289. Building blocks. R. E. THOMAS. Aug. 26, 1964 [Aug. 28, 1963], No. 34014/63. Heading E1B. A building block 1 of clay, breeze, resinbonded wood dust or other material has one or more vertical passages 6 communicating with a frog-recessed part 2, the passages 6 being positioned (e.g. centrally) so that in a staggered-course wall the frogs in one course do not communicate with the passages in the course below. As shown the blocks have end channels 3 and are used with brick-laying apparatus as described in Specification 748,942, mortar being injected from a nozzle 7 into the passage 6 and frog 2 until the block is raised to the set height, the mortar also filling the channels 3 in the course below. The frog 2 and channels 3 may be divided into two or more compartments. In a modification, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), a block having two vertical air circulating cavities on its longitudinal centre line is provided with two vertical mortar filling passages on its transverse centre line, the passages communicating with a peripheral channel and central frog recess isolated from the cavities by raised lands on the underface of the block.
