Abstract

804,846. Solid fuel furnaces. STAMICARBON N.V. April 9, 1957 [April 9, 1956], No. 11571/57. Class 51 (1). In a solid fuel furnace fed from the top and having an air inlet grate through which air enters the combustion chamber and means for discharging residues over a bottom grate and through a gap below the air inlet grate, the gap beneath the air inlet grate is divided laterally by one or more partitions. The space between the air inlet grate 4 and the bottom grate 10 of a furnace is divided by water-cooled partitions 9<SP>1</SP> which are perpendicular to the plane of the air inlet grate 4 and integral with walls 9 extending into the combustion chamber from the grate 4, as described in Specification 795,217. The slag pusher 11 has its fore part divided to project between the partitions 9<SP>1</SP>. The cooling passages in the walls 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are connected to the header 8 collecting coolant from the grate 4 and to the water-cooled bottom grate 10. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown, the blades of a rotatable slag pusher extend between the bars of the bottom grate and between the partiton walls.
