Abstract

715,630. Electromagnetic relays. CARPENTER, R. E. H., and TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1952 [Nov. 8, 1951], No. 26221/51. Class 38(5) [Also in Group XXXV] A permanent magnet body for polarized relays has an adjustable internal shunt by which the magnetic strength of the body may be adjusted. The invention is shown as applied to a relay as described in Specification 619,546 in which the magnets 9 are replaced by magnet bodies A, B according to the invention. The magnet body comprises a permanent magnet section B fixed to a soft-iron section A and the shunt F is adjustable by means of screw threads G, D, so that it enters an aperture E in the permanent magnet part to a controllable extent and so internally shunts an adjustable part of the magnetic flux, to vary the effective magnetic power of the body. In a modification, not shown, the adjustable shunt may slide in a groove in the' magnetic body. Specifications 315,496, [Class 38(v)], and 559,047 also are referred to.
