Abstract
715,177. Sterilizers. BRITISH STERILIZER CO., Ltd., and PERERA, R. Jan. 29, 1953 [July 23, 1952], No. 18625/52. Class 81(1) A boiling water sterilizer or like vessel for constantly boiling liquid, closed by a lid resting freely over the mouth of the vessel, is provided with a condenser tube having connections for the circulation of cooling fluid and extending only around the junction of the lid and the mouth to intercept by condensation steam or other vapour which would otherwise escapepast said junction. As shown, a sheetmetal tank a has the upper edge of its wall rolled over to form a tubular rim b surmounting the wall symmetrically. At opposite ends of the rectangular duct so formed, T-junction pipe connections provide cooling water inlet c and outlet d respectively, the former being fitted with a plug cock e for controlling the flow of cooling water. The lid of the sterilizer tank consists of a flat sheet metal cover f having a stiffened horizontal flange g which rests on the rim b and a stiffened depending flange h spaced inside the tubular rim b. In a modification a sterilizer tank i has a filled beaded rim j and the lid k has a depending annular flange l to which is secured by clip m a condenser tube n in the form of a rectangular loop or turn. The ends of the condenser tube n are connected to an elbow block p, which is secured through the lid to a connector block q carrying inlet and outlet spigots for flexible supply and return cooling water pipes.
