Abstract
1,170,555. Tubular heat exchangers. CARLZEISS - STIFTUNG, [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN]. 14 June, 1968 [21 June, 1967], No. 28555/68. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger for liquids, gases and vapours or mixtures thereof comprises a tube through which the fluid passes over tubular coils 6, 8 of glass, ceramic or like brittle material which are supplied with coolant water or other medium from a pipe 1 via a gas chamber 2. Air or gas forms a cushion in the upper part of the chamber 2 to take up surges in the coolant e.g. on closing down, and the lower part of the chamber is filled with the coolant to the level 4. The glass coils partially surround the gas chamber and are united at 7 to allow flow of coolant to a common discharge 9 and drain 10.
