Abstract
733,509. Hot water supply systems. RANGE BOILERS, Ltd. March 16, 1954 [March 17, 1953], No. 7299/53. Class 64 (1). A hot water storage vessel a which has a bottom inlet n and a top expansion pipe o contains a calorifier which comprises a hollow annular heat exchanger b surrounding a chamber c and a space g below the latter. The chamber c communicates with both the annular heat exchanger b and the space g, respectively through an opening or openings d below the top of the' chamber e and through a pipe h which has openings near the top. The heat exchanger b has top and bottom flow and return connections e, f with a boiler, and a vent j which is sealed by the water in the vessel a. The calorifier and the rest of the primary system are filled from the vessel a through the pipe h and chamber c. When the water in the primary system is heated, its expansion is taken up by displacement of the air trapped in the chamber c into the space g. The vent j comprises a tube with a constriction m and openings into an outer tube k with a closed top. In a modification, the top and bottom of the chamber c are domed, and the vent comprises an inverted U-tube with a constriction at its bend.
