Abstract

1,192,381. Hot water boilers. JOHN WHITE. HOUSE & SONS Ltd., and P. M. WHITE. HOUSE. 22 May, 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 13182/66. Heading F4A. A gas-fired boiler for heating water in a pair of systems, e.g. a central heating system with radiators, and a domestic hot water supply system, comprises a primary hot water chamber 12 with heat exchanger tubes 14 passing through for the passage of hot gases from a gas burner 33 to a flue 17. Hot water from tank 12 passes through pipes 22, 23 to the central heating system, and returns through pipe 16 and a pump 15 to a pipe 13 with side apertures to direct the return water over heat exchanger tubes 14. A secondary hot water chamber 10 surrounds chamber 12 and is connected to the domestic supply system through a pipe 19, secondary heat exchanger 18 and pipe 20. Secondary heat exchanger 18 comprises a finned pipe surrounding tubes 14. A thermostat 21 in chamber 12 controls a gas supply valve 25, the gas burner also having a pilot 29 with ignition equipment. For domestic hot water use only, the radiator circuit is closed and the water in chamber 12 recirculated through pump 15. Chamber 10 has an inlet 11 and an expansion pipe 10a, and pipe 23 has a connection to a header tank. Pump 15 may be controlled by a thermostat in the central heating system. A tray 36 catches condensation.
