Abstract

Classes 29 and 64(3) A milk cooler for use with a milk can 1 comprises a chamber 10 for cooling liquid e.g. water, extending beyond the periphery of the can and provided with outlets 36 whereby jets of water are directed on to the outside of the can, and a chamber 22 for the passage of milk therethrough and into the can, of dimensions such that its periphery lies within the neck of the can, and in direct heat exchange with the water chamber and disposed below it, the milk chamber having a central inlet and peripheral outlets 38 .and being so designed that milk passes through it in a thin layer. Milk enters the cooling head at 3 and passes through an annular chamber 16 before reaching the milk chamber from where it is discharged against the inside wall of the can. A vacuum is maintained in the milk can through pipe 18 and there is a centrally arranged airbleed tube 25. Float operated means arranged on the bleed tube may cut off the supply of milk when the can is full.
