Abstract

818,284. Evaporative cooling, air cooling installations. GARRETT CORPORATION. Jan. 10, 1957 [Jan. 24, 1956], No. 991/57. Classes 29 and 64(3) Air to be cooled passes through a first duct 11, 12 crossing a second duct lateral to the first through pipes 10 over the walls of which an evaporative coolant, e.g. water is sprayed. The water tank 18 is airtight and a pipe 21, normally closed by a solenoid valve 23, connects the interior of the tank with the duct 12. On the temperature of the air in duct 12 attaining a predetermined value switch 25 is closed, opening the solenoid valve and drawing off air from the duct through pipe 21 to the tank 18, forcing water through the sprays 17. Preferably the sprays 17 are pneumatic. and air from duct 12 flows through a bleed line 22 to operate the sprays.
