714,028. Hose couplings. BIEGEL GES., O. Oct. 30, 1952 [Nov. 14, 1951], No. 27302/52. Classes 99 (1) and 99 (2). A coil spring ring 3 surrounds the end of a hose 2 fitted over a nozzle 1 substantially stationary relatively to a clamping member such as a screwed ring 6 integral with the nozzle, and a clamping member 4 having a coned surface is screwed onto the ring 6 to cause the ring 3 to force the hose into engagement with the nozzle 1, and when tensional load is applied to the hose the ring 3 adheres to the hose and is moved towards the smaller end of the coned surface of the member 4 to urge the hose radially inwards towards the outer surface of the nozzle. The nozzle 1 may be provided with an annular bead 8, and ports 7 so that with unintentional release of the coupling pressure fluid in the hose escapes through openings 9 which may comprise a whistle and thus act as an alarm signal. The ring 3 may be enclosed in a rubber tube; alternatively, each convolution of the ring may be surrounded by rubber, or the ring may be embedded in a vulcanized solid rubber ring. In a modification, the opposed ends of two hoses are connected by a double-ended spigot internally of a tubular socket onto which members 4 are screwed, the wall of the socket being provided with an aperture through which passes a screw engaged in a flange of the spigot so that the spigot and socket have a limited amount of relative movement.
