Abstract
890,353. Hose couplings. NEUE ARGUS G.m.h.H. Dec. 16, 1960 [Jan. 21, 1960], No. 43311/60. Class 99(1). In a coupling having a bayonet joint and comprising either two similar coupling halves or a coupling part and a connecting piece provided with a screwthreaded portion, and wherein a hose 3 is held fast between a sleeve 1 which is provided with a screwthread and a nipple 2 adapted to be screwed into the sleeve and the hose, and by means of which coupling it is possible either to couple a hose to another hose, or to a machine part through the agency of the connecting piece, the studs 7 of the bayonet joint which are undercut at the coupling side thereof and also the bayonet coupling slots 7<SP>1</SP> of both coupling halves, or the coupling part and connecting piece, are identical, and the bayonet studs extend beyond a piston ring 4 which serves to seal the two coupling halves, or the coupling part and connecting piece, and which is mounted with a sealing action in or on that end of the hose nipple remote from the hose or in that end of the connecting piece remote from the screw threaded portion thereof. As shown, a sleeve 1, Fig. 1, carries bayonet lugs 7 for connection to an opposing sleeve provided with identical lugs and directly engages the wire gauze layer 3<SP>1</SP> of the hose 3, the nipple being formed with recesses 2<SP>111</SP> for reception of a key and to facilitate screwing of the nipple into the sleeve. An 0-ring 5 is disposed between a shoulder 2<SP>1</SP> on the nipple and a piston ring 4 internally screw-threaded for engagement with a screw-thread 2<SP>11</SP> on the nipple and having secured thereto by vulcanisation a rubber ring 6. In modifications, (a) the piston ring 4 is secured within the nipple by a tangentiallydisposed pin, and a protective rubber ring is positioned over bayonet lugs provided on the nipple to prevent the ingress of dust between the lugs, (b) the bayonet lugs are formed on nuts 24, Fig. 3, rotatably secured on the sleeve 1 and the piston ring 11 is attached to the nipple by a rubber ring 12; alternatively, the ring 12 is provided with a sleeve by means of which the ring is guided within a tubular extension of the sleeve 1. A tubular locking element may be slidably arranged on one of the nuts 24 to prevent accidental release of the coupling halves. Where a single coupling member is to be connected to a part 20, Fig. 10, formed with a screwed portion for attachment to apparatus, the piston ring 22 is secured to a rubber ring 21 having an annular bead 21<SP>1</SP> locked in a groove 20<SP>11</SP> of the part ; the ring 21 may also be secured to the piston ring by an annular bead.
