Abstract

711,735. Gas titters. SPONCEL, Ltd. June 22, 1951 [June 23, 1950], No. 14913/51. 'Class 8 (2). A gas filtering mass of shredded regenerated cellulose disposed between two perforated cylinders 2, 3 supported within a container 4 is axially compressed to a varying degree in order to vary the filtering action thereof. To this end an annular pressure ring 9 is attached to or abuts legs 8 of a container cover 6 adjustably mounted on a screw threaded rod 10 projecting upwardly from a fixed perforated outlet column 11. In a modification the lower surface of the compression ring and the upper surface of a ring at the bottom of the space between the cylinders 2, 3 are inwardly bevelled to effect progressive reduction in the pore size of the cellulose between the outer and inner cylinders. Cleaning is effected by a reverse flow of air.
