Abstract
810,700. Drying gas. UNITED GAS CORPORATION. Jan. 22, 1957, No. 2350/57. Class 34(1). Natural gas &c. is dried by passage through a bed of adsorbent material, e.g. bauxite activated alumina or activated silica gel, in which the depth of the bed is greater than the square root of its crosssectional area, and in which the weight of adsorbent in pounds divided by the gas flow in millions of cubic feet per day is less than 50. As shown in Fig. 1, the gas flows through a cooler 17 into the lower end of a cylindrical vessel and then up through the desiccant to the outlet 12. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the gas enters the inlet 11a of an outer vessel 20 and flows down through the annular space between coaxial vessels 22, 21 and up the vessel 21 to the outlet 12a. The cross-sectional area of the annulus is the same as that of the vessel 21.
