990,228. Gas adsorption apparatus. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Aug. 24, 1960], No. 29256/60. Heading B1L. The invention comprises gas adsorption apparatus having at least one vertical tube 1 adapted to contain a source of heat or to conduct a heating medium therethrough, on impermeable shell 6 surrounding the tube and containing a column of solid adsorbent 14, and fluid flow connections 15 and 16 for process gas and purge gas, said vertical tube having heat transfer fins 10 and 11 extending outwardly into the adsorbent in planes substantially parallel to the tube axis. In the apparatus shown in Figs. I and 2, to which the above numerals refer, the shell 6 has an external casing 19 which, when top cover 20 is removed, acts as a chimney for cooling air. The apparatus may be used for the adsorption of water vapour from air or of carbon dioxide from mixtures with nitrogen. Molecular sieve adsorbents may be used. Specifications 986,792, 990,220 and 990,229 are referred to.
