Abstract

972,284. Separation of acid gas and water vapour from gaseous mixtures. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 14, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 9501/60. Heading B1L. Acid gases, e.g. H2S, CO2, and H2O vapour, are removed from gaseous mixtures by subjecting the gas to at least two preliminary drying stages before passing to a molecular sieve adsorbing unit where the acid gas is removed. The gas enters a refrigerator 5 at 70 ‹F. which is in the first drying stage whereby the dew point of the gas is reduced to +5 ‹C. or less and which comprises a condenser circuit 6 with cooler 7. Condensate is collected at 9 while gas leaves via 8 to the second drying stage whereby the dew point is reduced to -60 ‹C. or less and which comprises molecular sieve adsorbers A, B for alternate use and reactivation, and heater 12 and cooler 13. The gas then passes to adsorber stage 3 comprising molecular sieve vessels C, D and E one of which is used while two are reactivated at below 300 ‹C., e.g. gas from stage two is blown from 14 through E to line 15 and heat exchangers 16 and 17 while hot gas from heater 18 (which may be replaced by heat transfer elements in vessels C, D, E) passes through D and via line 19 to heat exchangers 20, 21 and 22 (which may be heated by hot fuel gas). Some purge gas and the CO2 and H2O vapour is vented through 23. Purified gas is delivered by line 24.
