Abstract
1,097,112. Pressure oscillation of gas during sorption and catalytic processes. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. March 23, 1965 [April 28, 1964], No. 12318/65. Headings B1F and B1L. To improve the mass transfer of a multicarpment substantially gaseous or vapour phase to and/or from porous sorptive and/or catalytic material, the pressure over the porous material is oscillated during the mass transfer. The gaseous phase may be passed over a zeolitic molecular sieve bed during the adsorption step or the desorption step of a normal-paraffin separation process, the gas molecules being forced into and away from the interiors of the particles of the bed during oscillation of the pressure for more efficient adsorption or desorption. The pressure oscillation is effected by one of three methods; (1) constant input 2 'but oscillating restriction 4 in output 3, (2) constant output 3 but oscillating restriction 5 in input 2, (3) constant input and output with oscillating volume source connected to porous material (Fig. 2, not shown). The oscillation is preferably at a rate of 0.01 to 5000 cycles per second and a pressure of 0.01 to 2 p.s.i.
