Abstract

711,114. Thermionic valves. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 8, 1952, No. 20026/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 39(1) [Also in Group XL(c)] A frequency-changer thermionic heptode valve comprises a cathode, an anode, and grids arranged between the cathode and anode in the following order: a signal grid adjacent the cathode,. a first screen grid, a local oscillator injection grid, and a second and a third screen grid, the grids being positioned and dimensioned so that with the three screen grids joined together the valve has hexode characteristics with high conversion conductance and high conversion impedance. Preferably the heptode is combined with a triode in the same envelope, the grid of the triode being connected internally to the local oscillator injection grid; the three screen grids may be connected together inside the valve. As compared with a known heptode, the pitch of the first grid and the pitch and minor axis of the third grid may be altered so that the grids may be used in the desired manner. The conversion impedance may be 1.55 megohms and the conversion conductance 865 ÁA/V.
