Abstract
559,078. Valve amplifying circuits. WHITE, E. L. C. May 13, 1942, No. 6524. [Class 40 (v)] An amplifier comprises a plurality of valves connected in cascade for signal frequencies and in series for the anode supply current so that one valve forms a cathode load to another and potentials are stabilized by cathode follower action. The Figure shows a pair of valves 3, 4 transformer coupled and with transformer input and output circuits. Gain control is applied by potentiometer 23 to the valve 3 the valve 4 being indirectly controlled in a similar sense due to the series connection of the valves. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), four series connected pentode valves are used and screen potentials are derived from the cathode of the second preceding valve through a voltage dropping resistance. Instead of transformer coupling any other form of indirect coupling may be used such as resistance capacity coupling. The valves may be cascade connected in any order.
