Abstract

A fuel oil composition comprises fuel oil and a minor proportion of a compound of formula <FORM:0710515/III/1> wherein X is oxygen or sulphur and each R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical, at least one R being a hydrocarbon radical other than an aryl radical when X is oxygen, and at least one R being a hydrocarbon radical when X is sulphur. Many derivatives of urea and thiourea containing alkyl, cycloalkyl and aryl radicals, for example lauryl urea, are referred to. The composition may also contain esters such as alkyl esters of phthalic acid and the polyalkylmethacrylates, for example the polymethylmethacrylates. The fuel oil is one boiling above the gasoline boiling range and may be a residual oil or a distillate oil such as catalytically cracked gas oil or a straight run distillate.
