Abstract
Liquid hydrocarbon fuel and lubricant compositions contain a compound of formula RX(CH2)nCOOY, where X is oxygen or sulphur, Y is hydrogen or the ammonium radical, n is a whole number, and R is alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl when X is oxygen, or aryl or alkaryl when X is sulphur. The fuel may be a motor or aviation fuel, a kerosene, or an aviation turbine fuel. The composition may contain 10 to 100 m.g. per litre of the compound. Compounds mentioned are para-(1-methyl, 1-ethyl, pentyl) phenoxyacetic acid, para - octyl - phenoxyacetic acid, para - nonylphenoxyacetic acid and its ammonium salt, lauryl - oxyacetic acid, tetradecyloxyacetic acid, and para-dodecylphenoxyacetic acid. Examples are given. The Provisional Specification also mentions the use of beta-laurylthiopropionic acid and alpha-tetradecylthioacetic acid.
