Abstract

A gasoline, at least 50% by volume of which distils over at 100 DEG C., contains 0.0005 to 0.05% by volume of a substituted imidazoline of formula <FORM:0878692/III/1> where R is a hydrocarbon radical having a chain of at least 10 carbon atoms and X is a hydrocarbon or oxygenated hydrocarbon radical having not more than 5 carbon atoms, or a monocarboxylic fatty acid salt of such a substituted imidazoline. Radical R may be derived from a fatty acid having 11 to 25 carbon atoms, such as oleic, stearic or coconut fatty acids. When the imidazoline salt is used it may be a salt of oleic, stearic or coconut fatty acids. In examples gasolines containing 1-(2-hydroxyethyl-2-oleylimidazoline-2 and the oleic acid salt thereof. The Provisional Specification refers to compounds where X is hydrogen.
