Abstract

A gasoline composition for marine use comprises an unleaded gasoline free of olefinic hydrocarbons and a minor amount of an addition salt of a primary n-alkyl amine containing 8 to 18 carbon atoms per molecule and a dialkyl acid orthophosphate wherein each alkyl group contains 5 to 12 carbon atoms. The salt may be prepared from n-dodecyl amine, n-octyl amine, n-decyl amine, n-tetradecyl amine, n-hexadecyl amine, or a mixture of amines derived from coconut oil fatty acid (cocoamine), and 3-methylbutyl, 2-ethylhexyl acid orthophosphate, bis-(2-ethylhexyl) acid orthophosphate, bis-(3-methylbutyl) acid orthophosphate, oxo-amyl, oxo-octyl acid orthophosphate, or bis-(oxo-octyl) acid orthophosphate. The composition may contain 3 to 30 pounds of the salt per thousand barrels of gasoline (approximately 0.001 to 0.01 per cent by weight). In an example a gasoline contains the addition salt of cocoamine and 3-methylbutyl, 2-ethylhexyl acid orthophosphate. Specifications 791,394 and 791,398 are referred to.
