Abstract

709,280. Reciprocating pumps. CARTER GEARS, Ltd. May 8, 1952 [May 15, 1951], No. 11313/51. Class 102 (1). A reciprocating pump in which the' pump piston 5 is attached to an eccentric strap 17 and reciprocates in a cylinder 3 formed in a body 2 that has a fork 18 engaging guiding surfaces on the strap and reciprocates the body on a rod 6 in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder. The rod 6 has a groove 12 which connects the inlet 14 to the cylinder during the suction stroke and a port 13 which connects the cylinder to the axial bore 8, in the rod 6, during the discharge stroke. One end of the bore 8 is connected to the,delivery 9 and the other end to a cylinder 11 containing an accumulator piston 21 loaded by an adjustable spring 22. Under excessive delivery pressures, the piston 21 uncovers a port 23 to allow by-pass of the delivery.
