Abstract

In an oil pressure pump the ratio of the swept volume 14 to the unswept volume 11 is such that the device may be operated with no output of liquid from the device at any time and the swept volume may be compressed into the unswept volume. The pump has a reservoir 9 forming a continuation of the cylinder 10 in which the piston 2 reciprocates. In a modification Fig. 2 (not shown) the piston 2 is furnished with a cross-bar 12 and loading springs 13. The unswept volume may be made variable by incorporating an adjustable piston in the bore 10 or reservoir 9; or alternatively pipes, cylinders, or containers can be located on the outside of the pump body providing there is a passageway between the pump and the reservoir. The pump may be of the multi-piston cylinder type.
