702,456. Gauging sheet material. WORLEY, S. C., [trading as KING, W.]. July 9, 1951 [July 11, 1950], No. 17365/50. Class 106 (2) Apparatus for gauging the thickness of sheet material comprises a table composed of rollers 10a supported on a frame 11 and a follower roller coacting with one of the rollers to form a calliper type gauge. The follower roller 26 is mounted in a spring loaded plunger 24 supported in a bracket 22 fixed to the main frame 11. A suitable indicator such as a dial gauge 28 may be mounted on a bracket on top of the plunger 24 so that movements of the roller 26 are indicated directly by the dial gauge to measure the thickness of the material. The rollers 10a may be driven by means of an electric motor 17 and chain 19 driving a sprocket 16a on one of the rollers fitted with a second sprocket 15a by means of which the drive is transmitted to the next roller and so on. A lever 32 may be provided to raise the plunger 24 against the action of the spring to enable a sheet of material to be fed between the gauging rollers more readily.
