[Class 100 (i).] Sheet-registering devices.-Sheets fed to printing or like machines are registered against a side guide 8 while being conveyed to the machine, the lateral registration movement of the sheet being produced by gripping the sheet between upper and lower travelling sheetengaging members such as drop rollers, which are driven intermittently or continuously through a slip clutch which permits the driven roller to be arrested in its movements when the sheet reaches the gauge 8. In the form shown the sheet S passes between a lower freely mounted roller 12, adjacent to which is a lower fixed guide 7, and an upper drop roller 35 mounted in bracket arms 27 secured by screws to a plunger 20 which is reciprocated against the action of an adjustable spring by means of a cam 16 which is splined to a shaft 15. A guide 30 is secured to the bearings of the roller 35 and rises and falls with the roller. The roller 35 is rotated intermittently by means of an oscillating yoke 36, which is actuated from a cam 17 on the shaft 15 by means of a lever 45 and is fitted with a spring-pressed clutch block 39 pressing on the roller 35. In a modification, the lower roller is driven through a slip clutch arranged axially to the shaft of the roller, and the rising-and-falling upper roller is freely mounted.
