[Class 100 (ii).] In a press in which a rocking platen A cuts and creases a sheet G<1> of paper, cardboard, &c., by pressing it against a forme B, the sheets are fed directly and in a rectilinear manner by rollers C and feed fingers mounted along with their actuating mechanism on the platen. In Fig. 1, as shown, diagrammatically, D is an arresting gripper to grip the back edge of the sheet after roller feed, until other spring fingers E take it away from the gripper D and hold it while the platen is pressing it on the forme, after which the sheet is lifted away by a stripper F. In operation, a sheet placed by the operator on the feed table XI against guides is pressed by the feed roll 33a raised against the rotated upper feed roll 29, Fig. 9, which moves the sheet forward. The platen is oscillated by a crank pin 11 and connecting-rods H. A sprocket 12 rigid with the crank pin 11 in making one revolution for each revolution of the crank pin drives a chain 12, which in turn through gearing drives a shaft 20 which actuates all the feeding rolls and the grippers. The sheet then passes between fingers 45, 46, the finger 46 being raised up by a cam 50 in time to grip the back edge of the sheet and arrest its movement. Other spring- closing fingers 61, Fig. 10, are oscillated bodily by a double cam 64 to take the sheet from the fingers 45, 46 and position it accurately on the platen, which then oscillates towards the forme.
