Abstract

212,097. Adams, R. C. Feb. 27, 1923. Sheet-separators.-Sheets are separated from a pile 19 and fed to the rollers 21, 22 of a duplicating, printing, or like apparatus, by means of a suction nozzle 2 mounted on a bracket 8 carried by a bar 9 mounted on pivoted arms 10 carried by a slide 12 which is reciprocated vertically by cam mechanism. The separator 2 opens into an induction tube 1, and is formed with contact edges 3, the leading edge 4 being undercut so that a shallow orifice is presented giving access to the recessed underaurface 2 when the nozzle is in contact with the paper to be lifted. When a sheet is attracted to the.nozzle 2, the sheet is puckered into the undercut edge 4 and air passes through the puckered edge between the top sheet and the one below, thus preventing double feed. One or more of the other edges separating the nozzle may be undercut. As the slide 12 is raised, stops 15 act on shoulders 14 on the arms 10 causing them to move about the pivot 11, and carry the sheet into the bite of the rollers 21, 22.
