597,582. Cloth - measuring devices. RUSSEK, S. April 5, 1945, No. 8468. [Class 42 (ii)] A cloth-measuring machine comprises an upper and a lower pair of drums, between which the cloth passes the corresponding upper and lower drums being pressed towards each other with adjustable pressure, and those of each pair being coupled together, independently of their engagement with the cloth, means being provided for measuring the length of cloth passed between the touching points of the drums. Small subsidiary rollers may be placed between the drums to act as supports for the cloth. The drums may be connected together by chains running over sprockets, and one roller of each pair may be connected to the corresponding one of the other pair by gears having long teeth to compensate for variations in thickness of the cloth. The drums may be sprung by mounting them on brackets 53, 54 (Fig. 3), having spigots which are surrounded by springs 51, 52. The spigots pass through a plate 56, the position of which. is adjustable by means of a nut on a screw 55. Alternatively (Fig. 4) the drums may be carried on levers 57, 58, pivoted at 65, and supported by springs 63, 64. Or, they may be carried on arms 19, 21, pivoted on rods 43, 44 and connected by the link 20, and sprung by springs surrounding the rod 43 (Fig. 5). A registering device is connected to the drum 25 by means of gears 33, 34.
