Abstract

599,037. Tyre-spreaders. PENNY, A. J. Sept. 12, 1945, No. 23544. [Class 144 (i)] A device for forcibly spreading the edges of a tyre cover comprises a stand 12 fitted with rollers 11 on which the tyre 10 is supported, pairs of hooked jaws 13, for engaging the opposite edges of the tyre, being connected to the rods 20 of a pair of pistons 34 in a power cylinder 24. The jaws 13 are pivoted to rods 15 which are adjustable in the upright members 14 of frames connected to the piston-rods 20, and swing on the lower part of the stand. A 3-way cock 31 controls the distribution of compressed air to an inlet 28 arranged between the pistons, the latter being returned to the inoperative position (Fig. 2) by springs 25.
