Abstract

1,102,330. Railway-track brakes. COMPAGNIE DES FREINS ET SIGNAUX WESTINGHOUSE. 16 June, 1966 [7 July, 1965], No. 26849/66. Heading F2E. A railway-track brake comprises a pair of retarder jaws 1, 2 each mounted on a series of adjustable clamps 4, 5 which clamps 4, 5 are in turn mounted on arms 6, 7, respectively, pivoted about a common axis 8. The arms 6, 7 are provided with adjustable stops 11, 10 respectively which co-operate with the base 12 of a rail cradle 9. The outer ends of the arms 6, 7 are pivoted to a device 13 which includes a twoway acting piston and cylinder device 18 and a pair of coil springs 30, 31. The coil springs 30, 31 urge the jaws 1, 2 into their active positions, the pressure exerted by the coil springs being supplementable by the piston and cylinder device. The piston and cylinder device also provides for the retraction of the jaws 1, 2.
