886,238. Rolling. MALMBERG, K. B. G. May 12, 1958 [May 16, 1957], No. 15093/58. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XIX] A gauge for measuring and adjusting the space between two working rolls 10 comprises two rolling members 16 carried in a common recess in a holder 12 and each adapted to roll against one of the rolls 10 and against one another, any movement of the holder being magnified. The apparatus is described as being of use in connection with a cold-rolled iron mill or rubber calender rollers. The holder 12 carrying the two rollers 16 is mounted on a bar 20 slidable in brackets 22 secured to the bed 26 of the rolling mill. The other end of the bar 20 acts through a bell-crank lever (not shown) on a. diaphragm forming the side of a liquid-filled chamber 48. Liquid displaced from this chamber by movement of the diaphragm rises in a vertical tube 68 to give an indication of the spacing of the rollers 10. Manual control of the spacing of the rollers or of the tension in the strip being rolled is then possible. Alternatively, the mechanism may be connected to electrically operated automatic adjusting means.
