697,678. Underfeed furnaces. RIJSWIJK, A. C. VAN, [trading as VENNOOTSCHAP ONDER DE FIRMA STOOKWERK]. Feb. 12, 1952 [Feb. 12, 1951], No. 3318/51. Class 51(i) In a firepot for an underfeed stoker of the type comprising a plurality of adjacent blocks seated around the mouth of the stoker retort, at least the majority of the blocks being tuyere blocks formed at each side with horizontal channels serving as inlets for the forced draught, each tuyere block 7 and blind block 8 is formed with side recesses 11 extending from the upper portion 12 of the block to the uppermost air channel 9 in the tuyere block 7 and to a single air channel 10 in the blind block 8 in order that air may pass through the slots formed by the recesses 11 cooling said upper portion 12. Each block has at the base a bulbous flange engaging a peripheral flange 16 on the retort 17 and also has behind the upper portion 12 a channel shaped extension fitting engaging a flange on the firebed 6. The tuyere block air channels are defined by horizontal ribs which may be formed with projections causing the recesses 11 to extend substantially the whole depth of the blocks.
