Abstract

Fire-bars and grates.-Air under pressure is delivered to the fuel on a furnace grate in alternating vertical and horizontal streams through passages arranged between and in the fire-bars. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the fire-bars are arranged transversely in the furnace and the air supplied beneath them by means of a blower passes vertically through the spaces A and horizontally through openings B.
