Abstract

Fire-bars for travelling grates are so constructed that the air, after passing up between the bars, passes horizontally under the fuel and then upwards into it. To effect this the bars are formed with grooves on their upper surfaces terminating in oblique walls. The bars are made of the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and fit together as shown in Fig. 6. On one side the bar is formed with a ledge 12 extending beyond the upper face of the bar and passing under the adjacent bar 9, as shown in Fig. 7, lugs 13 on the ledge keeping the two bars apart to afford an air passage. Grooves 15 formed in the faces of the bars terminate in oblique walls as shown and distribute air passing between the bars under the coal.
