Abstract
404,930. Furnace grates. LESSARD, U. E., 4677, Berri Street, Montreal, Canada. May 21, 1932, No. 14519. Convention date, May 22, 1931. [Class 51 (i).] Air supplied under pressure beneath a furnace grate is given a rotary motion while passing through passages in the grate to the fuel thereon. As shown in Fig. 1, the grate bars are formed in two longitudinal sections 11, 12 with vertical air passages 15 terminating at the top in flared openings 16. Each section is provided with flat and curved baffles 18, 19 which cause the air to partake of a rotary motion before and as it issues through the openings 16. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the baffles 20, 21 in the two sections are inclined in opposite directions. Fig. 6 shows a further modification wherein the baffle 23, 24 is helical. The sides of the bar sections may be provided with vertical grooves to form air passages between adjacent grate bars.
