Abstract
150,629. Stuart, J. Feb. 25, 1920. Fire-bars and grates.-Firebars for travelling chain grates are formed of plates or bars b, c inclined to one another and connected by a web d provided with a recess f or slot. Carrying rods connected to the driving-chains pass through the holes e and the recess f. On the upper run of the grate, fuel is supported on the plate or bar b, and the lower plate or bar c serves to direct air through the fuel bed. The lower plates or bars c form a closed surface on the return run of the grate, and serve to carry ashes to the front of the furnace. Several bars may be cast together, or instead of the bars being cast in one piece they may be made up of plates secured together. The plates or bars b, c may be corrugated, fluted, ruffled, or otherwise formed to carry the fuel and ashes more effectively. The recesses f allow the bars to be given a slight oscillatory movement.
