448,044. Furnace firebars. HANSON, J., Pencroft, Sutton Park Road, Kidderminster, and GRIFFITHS, W. W. R. F., Lyncotte, Salford Road, Bidford-on-Avon. Dec. 3, 1934, No. 34656. [Class 51 (i)] Each side f of a furnace firebar a is provided with a number of spaced substantially pearshaped projections b so that when the bars are assembled the projections of one bar abut against those of the adjacent bars forming between them vertical air passages which converge to a throat c and then diverge and merge into a longitudinal passage extending to the upper surface of the bar. The side faces of the bars are formed with vertical grooves h which begin within the diverging portions of the nozzles and gradually increase in depth towards the upper surface of the bars. The grooves on opposite sides of the bars are relatively staggered. The bars may be provided with holes allowing them to be connected together for use as a chain grate.
