Abstract

691,813. Two-part couplings. TELEPHONE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Dec. 19, 1951 [Jan. 12, 1951], No. 928/51. Class 38 (i). A plug socket comprises a body 10 and a faceplate 11 having in it holes 11a for the plug pins, and shutters 15 and 16 situated behind two of the holes in a recess 10a stepped at 10b. The shutters have their rear surfaces stepped at 15b and 16b and are interlocked by a projection 16c on shutter 16 engaging a corresponding recess 15d in shutter 15. One end of each shutter is pressed against the base of the recess 10a by means of springs 17 and 18. When the two live pins are first inserted they engage cam surfaces 15a and 16a of the shutters, thus causing the latter to pivot about the edges of the steps 15b and 16b, freeing their ends from the step 10b, the shutters then moving upwards, thus permitting the pins to enter completely. Both pins must be inserted simultaneously, for while the shutters can pivot about the step 10b independently of each other, both shutters must be disengaged to allow the pins to enter completely.
