1301956 Two part couplings BASSANI SpA 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 24421/71 Heading H2E A socket includes a shutter which is rotatably displaceable against a spring from a first position to a second position by pins of a complementary plug to expose a pair of contacts, the pins engaging inclined surfaces on the shutter to prevent displacement from the first position unless both plug pins are inserted simultaneously and a member-carrying a pair of sleeves which project outside the socket to enclose the plug pins as they are inserted. The socket comprises a housing 1, a cover-plate or cap 30 with the shutter 10 mounted on the base for rotational movement against the spring 6. Two latches 19, 20 pivotally mounted by pins 21, 22 seated in holes 23-26 with springs 27, 28 each have a slot 19<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP> which engage teeth 17, 18 on the shutter to prevent rotation of the shutter, when no plug is present. When plug pins are inserted through apertures 35, 36 the pins pivot the latches out of engagement with the shutter and then bear against inclined surfaces 15, 16 to rotate the shutter and expose the socket contacts to the plug pins; rotation of the shutter is limited by projections 45, 46 acting against stops 45<SP>1</SP>, 46<SP>1</SP>. An earth pin on the plug enters through an aperture 37 coaxial with a sleeve 38 about which the shutter rotates and a shield member 40 can slide against a spring 39. The member is urged by the spring 39 against the cover-plate with integral sleeves 42, 43 projecting through the apertures 35, 36 beyond the cover-plate so that when a plug is inserted the portions of the pins still outside the cover-plate when the free ends of the pins meet the socket contacts are covered by the sleeves 42, 43, the member 40 being moved against the spring 39 during the final part of the plug insertion. The socket contacts (Fig. 5, not shown) comprise strips (47, 48) urged into contact with the plug pins by springs (49, 50).
