Abstract

460,731. Plug-and-socket couplings. TUCKER, J. B. Oct. 23, 1935, No. 29210. [Class 38 (i)] A shield for the live sockets is locked against movement by the pins unless by insertion of the earth pin the lock has been removed. In the form shown the sockets a, b are normally covered by a shield c of insulating material pivoted at c<1> and biassed into the closing position by a spring (not shown). The earth pin-socket d is slotted to accommodate the nose e<2> of a lever e pivoted at e<1> and having a nose e<3> co-operating with a projection c<3> on the member c to prevent the latter from rotating. When the earth pin h is inserted, it rocks the lever e against the action of a spring e<5>, and moves the nose e<3> out of engagement with the projection c<3> so that the plugs g are able, on contact with the inclined faces c<2> to turn the member c to uncover the sockets. The shield may be in two separate parts or may slide instead of pivot.
